Maternal Excellence

Meet Our Foundation Females

Our dams are the backbone of our program—selected for fertility, soundness, and maternal strength. We cull hard for feet, udders, and longevity, ensuring only the best cows remain in our herd. Each dam is scored for structure and performance, producing calves that thrive in commercial environments.

Udder Scoring for Red Angus Cows

Udder Scoring:

Here's a look at how we teat and udder score our cows (click the image to enlarge). We use the Red Angus Association's guidelines to evaluate both teat size and udder suspension, scoring each from 1 (poor) to 9 (ideal).

  • Teat Size: Smaller, uniform teats (scores 7-9) are preferred for easier nursing and longevity. Large, balloon-shaped teats (scores 1-3) are culled.
  • Udder Suspension: Tight, well-attached udders (scores 7-9) help prevent injury and mastitis. Pendulous or loose udders (scores 1-3) are not retained.

Our udder guidelines ensure all foundation females meet strict standards for udder quality and function, promoting the health and productivity of their calves. Only cows with strong scores remain in our herd, supporting long-term performance and maternal excellence.
