Oland Red Angus is a family-run cattle operation located in the sand hills of southeastern North Dakota, on the edge of the Sheyenne National Grasslands. Our herd is managed with a focus on longevity, soundness, and maternal strength. Cows are expected to thrive under real-world conditions, grazing alongside our commercial herd at standard stocking rates.
Klay bought his first Red Angus cow in 2009 through one of his neighbor's production sales. Having grown up with his father running a Black Angus herd, Klay always felt affection for red cattle and wanted to be different.
“I bought that cow and bred her commercial for years until I got into college. [Then] I bought some more cows during my last couple years of college, and we're just trying to slowly expand."
We emphasize hard culling for feet, udder quality, and overall durability, ensuring only the most productive and resilient animals remain in our program. Our bulls are developed slowly on a balanced ration to promote long-term soundness and performance. We avoid pushing our cattle for rapid gains, instead prioritizing their ability to last and perform for years in your herd.
Honest data and transparent practices are central to our operation. We share detailed information about our cows' age, MPPA, and physical traits, so you can make informed decisions. Our cows are not pampered - they must work for a living, and we believe this approach produces cattle that excel in a variety of environments.
